Are you unsatisfied with your smile because of discolored, chipped, or cracked teeth? You can achieve the smile of your dreams with the help of dental veneers from Langley Dental Centre. A study reported in Dentistry Today found that approximately 50% of the 2000 participants were embarrassed or worried about their smiles and felt insecure about the condition of their teeth. At Langley Dental Centre, in Langley Twp, we offer our patients the option of porcelain and composite resin dental veneers in order to help them achieve whiter, brighter, or straighter teeth and improve the appearance of their smile.

How You Can Improve Your Smile with Dental Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain or composite resin shells that are customized to cover teeth and give them a new shape, color, and look. Since veneers are not porous, they are more resistant to staining than the natural enamel of teeth. In addition, gum tissue can tolerate porcelain veneers so there are no sensitivity or allergic reaction issues. Similar to natural teeth, dental veneers are smooth and slick to the touch.

Aside from covering up stained teeth, dental veneers are also often used to fill gaps, straighten teeth, change the shape of teeth, correct cracks or chips, for individuals over the age of 18 who aren’t satisfied with the shape of their teeth. Veneers are a great way for you to alter the appearance of your teeth without essentially affecting or having to reshape them.

How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

High-quality dental veneers that are shaped and attached properly to your teeth can last up to 20 years. Veneers are also considered a permanent dental treatment which means that they don’t require exceptional care. In order to keep your veneers and smile looking bright white, all you need to do is follow a normal dental hygiene routine.

The Dental Veneer Procedure

The entire procedure for getting a dental veneer normally requires three visits. The first visit will be your evaluation/consultation and the other two will involve the application of the veneers. Please, keep in mind that this process applies whether you choose to have a veneer installed on a single tooth or whether you have multiple teeth bonded with veneers at the same time.

Your Initial Consultation/Evaluation

As this dental cosmetic procedure requires precision, at your first appointment, our Langley dentists will examine the affected tooth/teeth to collect accurate information about them and if any additional treatments are necessary before they are ready to receive the veneer. Your dentist may also provide X-rays, 3-D imaging, and impressions of your teeth to the lab where your custom porcelain veneers will be fabricated within about one to two weeks.

Preparation of Teeth

In order to prepare your teeth for the veneers, your dentist will have to reshape the teeth and remove a thin layer which will be approximately the thickness of the veneer. While your teeth are being reshaped and ground down, you may need local anesthesia to help you while your teeth are being ground down. Once the reshaping process has been completed, an impression of your teeth will also be taken and temporary veneers will be placed to protect your teeth until your permanent veneers are ready.

Placement or Bonding Veneers

The final stage of the veneer process is the placement or bonding of the permanent veneers to your teeth. Once your dentist receives the dental veneers, they will be checked for fit and shade. The veneers may also need to be trimmed and adjusted. Once your dentist is confident about the placement, the veneers will be cemented to your teeth. A hand-held light will then be used to activate the cement and permanently bond the veneers to your teeth.

After your veneers are successfully bonded, your dentist will remove excess cement from the teeth and evaluate your bite. A follow-up appointment may be scheduled to ensure the quality of the veneers, otherwise, your dentist may wait until your next regularly scheduled dental exam to assess your veneers.
