Meet Our Langley Hygienists

Langley Dental Centre staff includes several experienced dental hygienists. Shawn J. Francis

Shawn graduated from Dalhousie University in 1998 with his Diploma of Dental Hygiene after previously completing a Bachelor of Science (Biology) and Bachelor of Arts (Sociology/Anthropology). Originally from Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, he has lived in Alberta since 2000.

Shawn has completed multiple continuing education courses emphasizing the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease. He provides a non-surgical option in the treatment and maintenance of periodontal disease. His experience allows him to discuss all manner of dental treatment options with his patients. As all dental hygienists, Shawn’s main goal is to provide his patients with an education on how to care for their oral health. He is a member of the CRDHA and CDHA. Shawn and his wife are the proud parents of two wonderfully busy children. He enjoys building and using computers, watching movies, and talking about cars. He spends most of his spare time with his family, playing with his kids, and fixing things around the house.

Cally

Cally was born in Hong Kong and came to Canada when she was 7 years old. She is fluent in English and Cantonese. She attained a BSc (Hons) in Toxicology at the University of Toronto in 2005 and realized that conducting scientific research with rats was not what she wanted to do in life. Thus, she went back to school to study dental hygiene and obtained a diploma in 2007.

Cally started her dental hygiene career at the Canadian Forces Base located in Langley and worked with several dental specialists including periodontists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontists. She left the Canadian Forces Base in 2010 and joined Langley Dental Centre.

Cally has found dental hygiene to be a rewarding and fulfilling career. She spends her spare time with her lovely husband and beautiful daughter.

Azin

Azin received her diploma in dental hygiene from the University of Alberta in 2011.

She believes in customizing her approach to suit the unique oral needs of her patients with the goal of helping her clients improve their oral health.

She absolutely loves seeing her efforts result in an increase in her patients’ quality of life. Azin also prides herself in being gentle with her patients as she believes every patient deserves to have the best dental hygiene experience possible for their situation. In her free time, she enjoys baking, spending time with her family and volunteering with senior citizens in the community.

Jessica

Jessica is originally from Langley, B.C. She has been living in Langley for 3 years now. After 4 years of experience as a Dental Assistant, Jessica decided to pursue a career in Dental Hygiene. Jessica studied at Oxford College in Ontario and became a Registered Dental Hygienist in September 2010. She is passionate about education and is still studying part-time to accomplish her BSc Specialized in Dental Hygiene.

Jessica’s goal is to provide quality care to her patients in a gentle and respectful manner. She believes in being thorough and stresses how important education is. Jessica finds it very rewarding to help her patients and see the difference in their quality of life.

Jessica has spent some time volunteering at dental offices in Ethiopia. Her favorite thing to do is travel. She loves adventure, whether it is flying a plane, snowboarding on a mountain, or scuba diving in the ocean!

Melissa

Melissa is a recent graduate from the University of Alberta with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene. She graduated in her hometown of Langley, BC and became a Registered Dental Hygienist in 2018 with two years of clinical experience. Passionate about developing her skills and knowledge as a dental clinician, she is currently pursuing her BSc in Dental Hygiene with a specialization in Head and Neck Reconstruction and Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta and attending different continuing-education courses.

Melissa is committed to providing quality patient care that is comfortable, comprehensive and tailored to the needs of her patients. She believes that the oral needs of each patient is different and strives to enhance their dental experience by customizing their oral health education and dental hygiene therapy to best fit their needs. In addition to this, she values respect and trust in provider-patient partnerships and is dedicated to developing long-lasting meaningful relationships with her patients to improve not only the patient’s dental experience but the quality of their care. She also places a strong emphasis on educating her patients about the connection between oral health and overall health.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and pursuing her creative side by sewing, painting, drawing, and singing. She also enjoys playing board games and watching movies.

Bonnie

Bonnie graduated in 2017 from the University of Alberta with her diploma in dental hygiene. She has worked for 10 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Ortho Tech in Langley and St. Albert.
Oral health education is very important to Bonnie because this encourages patients to take an active role in improving and maintaining excellent oral health throughout their lives.
In her spare time, Bonnie enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She loves trips to Las  Vegas, movies, and working out at Orange theory.

Joanna

Joanna graduated from the University of Alberta

with a diploma and a degree in dental hygiene with a specialization in head and neck rehabilitation and reconstruction.

She was born and raised in Langley, and is excited to be providing quality patient care to her hometown community. Joanna strongly believes in educating patients about their oral care and helping them improve their oral health. Joanna strives to create a comfortable environment for all of her patients.

In her spare time, she can be found watching movies, playing hockey, and traveling. Her favorite destination so far has been Hawaii.

Kristen

Originally from Langley, Alberta. Kristen attended the University of Alberta and received her Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences. Kristen further pursued her passion in helping others by completing her dental hygiene education in Langley, British Columbia. Along with her desire to improve patients oral health, Kristen strives to showcase her knowledge by educating others about the benefits of proper oral care. During her free time, Kristen enjoys reading, travelling, cooking and fitness.
